Hi Beauties,
Today's post is going to be a little different. As beauty bloggers, we are known to be obsessed with finding and trying new products to keep ourselves in tip-top condition, which includes keeping ourselves smelling great. But what about our houses? I think keeping them smelling amazing is equally as important. (Especially with Kids/Pets/Husbands - which let's face it, can sometimes cause quite a stink!) This post will be part one in a series about keeping your house smelling fresh, and part one is all about SCENTSY! (No- I am not sponsored by them, I wish! ;) but I wanted to tell you guys about what I honestly use, and which scents are my favorites & not so favorites.
Let's get started! If you aren't familiar with Scentsy, it is a company that sells wax cubes and wax warmers, which are said to be a lot more safe because there is no flame. Scentsy has quite the cult following, because they come out with limited edition warmers and scents. It is also a company similar to Thirty One, in that people have parties and there are many independent sales consultants. (and NO, I do not sell Scentsy :) I'm just a fan!)
The Scentsy cubes really last a long time, and are powerful enough to scent several rooms, which is what I like about them. I have a warmer in my kitchen, and it scents my kitchen, living room, and entrance foyer, which is great!
This is my warmer. It is NOT a Scentsy Warmer. Before I was introduced to the brand by a friend, I saw this warmer at Walmart and since it was an owl, I HAD to have it. (If you guys didn't know- I collect anything and everything OWL related!) My warmer cost around $12 and Scentsy has a similar looking owl warmer for around $30. Their warmers cost anywhere from $20 for a plug in outlet warmer, to $35 for a full sized premium warmer. So if you want to try out Scentsy scents, but aren't sure if you want to invest in a warmer because you aren't sure if the wax warmer style scent option will be right for you, I'd say check Walmart for a cheaper warmer. BUT- I will say that Walmart has a Home & Garden brand that offers wax cubes, which I would NOT recommend. The scents in the home & garden brand smell very artificial and do not last nearly as long, nor do they have the power to scent several rooms. (Scentsy definitely has THE BEST scents!)
I store my Scentsy bars in this super cute basket. It keeps them accessible while still giving me a "home" for them.
[L-R] Thunderstorm, Central Park Pralines, Camu Camu, Beach, Clove & Cinnamon, My Dear Watson, Whiteout, Pumpkin Marshmallow |
This is what a Scentsy bar looks like before you have broken it into the cubes. Each bar retails for $5.
Now Let's go through the Scents that I own, and what I think about them or recommend them!
Clove & Cinnamon is described by Scentsy as the "Classic scent of cinnamon sticks fused with cloves". This scent has been in my warmer for over 2 weeks now, and my love for it is still going strong. It reminds me of the holidays, and being snowed in and just feeling warm and content. I'm not sure what it is about cinnamon that I find so comforting, but I just really enjoy this scent a lot.
Central Park Prailines is described as "a decadent confection of rich roasted pecans, buttery caramel and cinnamon sugar." If you like bakery scents, this one is definitely for you! I really like this scent and feel like it can be used year round.
Beach is my all time favorite scent by Scentsy. It is described as "Papaya and honeydew, sweetened with a hint of coconut". I can definitely smell those notes, but I also feel like this (along with many of their other scents) are very complex. I will always have a stockpile of the Beach scented bars, and don't think I will EVER get tired of it.
Camu Camu is a scent that my friend gave me, after she got tired of burning it in her house. It is described as a "tropical oasis of lush mandarin, camu camu, and passion fruit." It is a scent that I can see myself enjoying throughout the upcoming summer.
These scents are what I like to call "Men Approved". Typically men have something to say about overly sweet or feminine scents, but I have had no complaints with these two. Thunderstorm is described as "very refreshing, sharp, spicy, outdoor fragrance, like a breeze in a storm." and My Dear Watson is described as "refreshing bergamot contrasted with mint, cedar, and suede. Sophisticated and smart." Both of these scents I would probably use either in the bathroom or kitchen, because they both smell super clean and fresh.
Finally, my last two bars are Whiteout which is described as "exhilarating blast of cool peppermint and sweet golden apples over frosty winter pine." and Pumpkin Marshmallow which is described as "sticky sweet marshmallow spooned onto fresh baked pumpkin and wrapped in a graham cracker crust." Whiteout is one of my favorites as well, because it is a soft, fresh, subtle scent that isn't overpowering. I don't care for pine scented things, but I don't smell the pine in Whiteout, which is good. So if you are a little uneasy trying Whiteout because of the pine scent, then have no fear! It smells divine! Lastly, my NON-FAVORITE is Pumpkin Marshmallow, which makes me really sad, because I typically love pumpkin scents. I originally smelled this in my friends house, and it smelled absolutely delicious, which is why I purchased it. However, in my house it smells like POPCORN, and not in a good way. Do you remember those cheap lip balms that came in funky flavors that we had as kids? Well, I had a popcorn scented one, and it brings me back to that which is just horrible. I put it in my warmer and before one cube was even melted, I had to take it out, because the "popcorn" scent was so strong it scented the entire top floor of my house. I really dislike Pumpkin Marshmallow. (But definitely recommend the other 7!)
That concludes PART 1 of my series on keeping your house smelling amazing! I hope you enjoyed, and as always I would love to hear your feedback regarding this post or anything you would like to chat about. I'd also LOVE some Scentsy recommendations. (I already have 20 scents on my wishlist!)
Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoyed!
xoxo,
Erin
